The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
