The President Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to the White House
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” he informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
