Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
