Following the Venezuelan-affiliated Tanker Reportedly Pursued by American Maritime Authorities

A uniquely yellow-fronted apartment block visible behind assisted us locate the video.

Our team is checking video footage and photographs circulated earlier today that show the aftermath of a reported car bomb blast that authorities in Russia state killed a high-ranking soldier in Moscow.

Russian authorities confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was in the car that detonated and that he later died of his wounds. An investigation is currently ongoing.

Our starting point to check the location from which the images were from relied on social media reports indicating the explosion occurred on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the capital city of Russia.

Our analysis employed street-view imagery on Google Maps and the local mapping service Yandex to match the unique yellow hue of a nearby residential complex captured in the video.

Locating other buildings, lamp-posts and the street layout confirmed where the footage were captured.

We also checked that the videos were recent and that the images had not undergone digital alteration.
