President Donald Trump has declared he is increasing import taxes on products shipped from Canada after the region of Ontario aired an anti-tariff ad featuring former President Reagan.

In a social media post on the weekend, Trump labeled the commercial a "fraud" and condemned Canada's leaders for not taking down it prior to the baseball championship.

"Due to their major distortion of the facts, and aggressive move, I am raising the import tax on Canada by 10 percent over and above what they are being charged now," Trump posted.

After Donald Trump on last Thursday pulled out of trade negotiations with Canadian officials, the Ontario premier said he would pull the commercial.

Ontario's Position

Ontario Leader the Premier said on last Friday that he would suspend his province's anti-import tax ad campaign in the United States, telling the media that he made the decision after consultations with Prime Minister Mark Carney "so that trade negotiations can continue".

He also said it would continue to air on Saturday and Sunday, including games for the MLB finals, which involves the Toronto team versus the Dodgers.

Trade Situation

The Canadian nation is the only G7 nation country that has not secured a deal with the America since the President started trying to charge high import taxes on items from major trading partners.

The America has previously imposed a thirty-five percent duty on every Canadian goods - though many are excluded under an current commercial pact. It has also slapped industry-specific duties on Canada's goods, such as a 50 percent duty on metal products and 25 percent on vehicles.

In his message, sent while he was en route to Southeast Asia, Donald Trump appeared to state he was including 10 percentage points to these duties.

Seventy-five percent of Canadian exports are shipped to the US, and the province is home to the bulk of Canada's automobile manufacturing.

Ronald Reagan Commercial Details

The advert, which was sponsored by the Ontario government, cites ex-President Ronald Reagan, a Republican and icon of US conservatism, stating tariffs "damage all Americans".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987-era radio speech that centered on global commerce.

The Reagan Foundation, which is tasked with protecting the former president's memory, had criticized the commercial for using "edited" sound and footage and claimed it distorted Reagan's 1987 remarks. It also said the provincial government had not sought consent to use it.

Continuing Tensions

In his update on social media on Saturday, Trump stated that the advertisement should have been pulled down before.

"Their Commercial was to be removed RIGHT AWAY, but they let it run yesterday during the World Series, knowing that it was a LIE," he wrote, while traveling to Asia.

Doug Ford had before pledged to run the Reagan advert in every Republican-led region in the America.

Each of Donald Trump and Carney will be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in the Malaysian nation, but Trump advised the media joining him on the presidential plane that he does not have any "desire" of speaking with his Canadian counterpart during the visit.

In his message, the President also accused Canadian officials of seeking to manipulate an forthcoming Supreme Court case which could end his whole tax system.

The lawsuit, to be considered by the highest US court next month, will determine whether the import taxes are lawful.

On Thursday, Trump also condemned, claiming that the advertisement was intended to "meddle" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

Baseball Championship Association

The advertisement is not the exclusive way that the region – location of the Blue Jays – is using the baseball championship as a platform to criticise the President's tariffs.

In a recording published on last Friday, Doug Ford and Gavin Newsom the Governor humorously made bets about which club would win the series.

Each official consistently joked about duties in the clip, with Doug Ford pledging to send Newsom a container of Canadian syrup if the Dodgers triumph.

"The import tax might cost me a higher price at the crossing these days, but it'll be worth it," he wrote.

In reply, the Governor suggested Doug Ford to resume permitting American-produced beverages to be sold in Ontario alcohol shops, and vowed to send "California's championship-worthy grape drink" if the Blue Jays triumph.

They ended their dialogue both stating: "Here's to a great baseball championship, and a tariff-free relationship between the region and the state."
